Are you ready to learn how to make the most delicious and flaky biscuits ever? Biscuits are a classic comfort food that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are easy to make and require only a few simple ingredients. In this blog post, I will show you how to make biscuits from scratch, with tips and tricks for achieving the perfect texture and flavor. Follow these simple steps and you will be rewarded with perfectly flaky delights that melt in your mouth!
Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You will need:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 6 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup of cold milk
Step 2: Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 4: Add the butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry blender, a fork, or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 5: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix or knead the dough, as this will make the biscuits tough.
Step 6: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 3/4-inch-thick rectangle. Fold the dough in half and pat it again into a 3/4-inch-thick rectangle. Repeat this process two more times. This will create layers of butter and air in the dough, which will result in flaky biscuits.
Step 7: Use a round biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out circles of dough. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. You can re-roll the scraps of dough and cut out more biscuits, but they may not be as flaky as the first batch.
Step 8: Bake the biscuits for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Step 9: Enjoy your biscuits while they are still warm, with butter, jam, honey, gravy, or whatever you like!
